Tips for Proper Use of CA-40
(Printable version in PDF form)
Test and document your mileage over the course of several tanks before you add CA-40.
When you’re ready to add CA-40 to your fuel tank, make sure you shake the bottle very well (also be sure to shake well before separating CA-40 into any smaller containers). Keep CA-40 stored at room temperature. Don’t attempt to dispense without warming if CA-40 is subjected to freezing temperatures.
Find out how much fuel your tank uses (you can look in the owner’s manual or call a dealer). Treat at a rate of 1 ounce CA-40 to 15 gallons of fuel (2 mL CA-40 per gallon of fuel) for your initial treat rate.
Pour in the CA-40 BEFORE adding fuel to flush the additive down the filler tube (otherwise, it might not all make it into the tank). Fill your tank with fuel (put in enough CA-40 to treat the whole tank the first time you use it). Some people inject CA-40 directly into the (upright) fuel pump nozzle and then add fuel.
After the initial treatment, treat only the fuel you put in each time. It is NOT better to over-treat the fuel. Conversely, if you add too little CA-40 (less than 1 ounce to 20 gallons), you will see no results.
For measuring devices, we recommend purchasing a CA-40 application kit from us or one of our distributors, or check your local auto supply store for other products designed to help in the use of additives. Be sure to take note of the measuring lines, and whether it’s measured American Standard or metric. Our web site has mix ratio guides.
Keep the product in a cardboard or plastic box with a rag or some paper towels for clean-up. Dish soap (such as Dawn) will work well for cleaning devices used with CA-40. The product is very safe to handle.
If you see no significant improvement after a few tanks treated with CA-40, you may want to consider resetting the onboard computer on your vehicle. Speak to your mechanic or contact us before attempting this.

For best results (particularly when using in bulk tanks), we now recommend pre-mixing CA-40 with the type of fuel to which you plan to add it. Use a ratio of 1 part CA-40 to 2 parts fuel. Then, add the pre-mixed fuel to your tank at a rate of 1 ounce premix to 5 gallons of fuel.
So for example, dump the entire contents of a quart bottle of CA-40 in an empty gas can. Then add 2 quarts of gas. Then add the premix to your tank at a rate of 1 ounce pre-mix to 5 gallons of fuel. Be sure to keep your pre-mix in a designated gas can at home. Do not carry gas in your vehicle. You can add the pre-mix to your tank at home after refueling.
