CA-40 Mower Experiment
Date: 10/24/2004
Temperature: 50 degrees Fahrenheit
Machine Used: Stanley riding lawn mower with Briggs & Stratton 21 HP two cylinder engine.
Procedures & Measurements
A lawn tractor was given measured amounts of fuel, provided a constant load (engaged mower deck) and ran a given RPM. The running time of each condition was measured with a watch. The engine was initially warmed up and run until it burned up all the fuel in the tank and stopped. Both conditions were given 3 pints of fuel. The engine was then started and the mowed deck immediately engaged. RPM was held at 4400. A “Snap On” tachometer was used to monitor the RPM. A watch was set to measure the running time of each condition.
CONDITION A used gasoline with an octane rating of 87
CONDITION B used gasoline with an octane rating of 87 treated with CA-40
CONDITION A ran for 2715 seconds
CONDITION B ran for 2910 seconds
CA-40 2-Cycle Test
Date: 5/05/2008
Temperature: 60 degrees Fahrenheit
Machine Used: Lawn Boy Model 8231 lawn mower
Procedures & Measurements
One full tank of untreated 87 octane gasoline treated with 2-cycle oil at 32:1 was run through mower. Then 5 test runs of 3.0 ounces gas each were run to establish a baseline. Then one tank of the same fuel as above treated with CA-40 at a rate of 1 oz. CA-40 to 15 gallons of gas was run through mower. Then 5 test runs of 3.0 ounces gas treated with CA-40 were run.
